Spring Break Art Camp

I was watching the news today and all of the sudden I see one of my students on TV!  Channel 5 news did a quick little story on the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum's Spring Break Art Camp.  Only a few schools are chosen for this free program and South Hills was one of the chosen ones.  It was my very difficult job to select four outstanding little artists (3rd & 4th Grades) for the program.  It was not an easy task.  The four students join other students at the Modern to learn about art, the museum, and they have the awesome opportunity to make art with visiting local artists.  It's a great program, and so much fun!  The Modern does so much for our FWISD students, I can't thank them enough.

I love the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) located in New York City.  I could have spent days walking through the galleries and looking at all the fascinating artwork.  We can't always just get up and go to NYC, it's expensive and so far away!  Well now you can!  They have a website just for you!  How cool is that?  I'd say that's pretty cool.  So if you have time to spare click on the link below for your virtual tour of the MOMA. Tell me what your favorite work of art is when we get back to school, I'd love to know.

Sketching in the Garden (4th Grade)

It was such a beautiful day today!  I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for one of my smaller 4th grade classes to go out and sketch in the garden.  I had the students put on their painting smocks and handed them drawing boards, paper and oil pastels.  The only rule was to draw something from the garden.  The results were FANTASTIC!

The peach blossoms are amazing!

Safe City Poster Contest (5th Grade)

The 5th graders have been working for weeks on their Safe City Poster Contest.  The FWISD competes every year in this contest.  The theme is "Imagine No Violence" students were to draw what they would imagine a place where no bad things happen.  Three winners have their posters on permanent display in a nation wide exhibition, which is pretty awesome I'd say.  Though it's hard to pick a winner with over 100 entries, everyone did an exceptional job and I'm so proud of them!
