The Circus of Shapes (1st Grade)

Learning about shapes is super fun! Using scissors to cut different shapes can be challenging though, especially if the shape is a circle. That's why we did this lesson together. We practiced cutting different geometric shapes; like squares, rectangles, triangles, ovals and circles. When we got down the shapes we learned about using glue sticks, when we got that down we started the Circus of Shapes lesson. In this lesson we read the book "Circus" by Lois Ehlert. Then students picked their favorite part of the book (most chose the elephant) and cut different shapes to create it. This lesson took two 45 minute classes. The results are adorable.
