Cowboy, Cowgirl Self-Portraits (2nd Grade)

This is the last of the Cowboy & Cowgirl Self-Portraits.  I so love these little cowpoke artworks!  We began by talking about some artists that created self-portraits, Frida Kahlo & Vincent Van Gogh.  Then we talked about our vocabulary terms, self-portrait, background, foreground, geometric shapes, collage, and horizon line.  Students followed along as we drew ourselves and learned about facial proportions.  They colored, cut, and glued on the hats and bandanas.

Cowboy/Girls Self-Portraits (1st Grade)

Here are some cowboy and cowgirl self-portraits created by 1st grade.  Students learned to define the vocabulary term "Self-Portrait" and also learned about facial proportions and collage (the art of gluing paper onto artwork).  We also talked about deserts and what a background and horizon line is.  When students finished coloring their pictures they glued pre-cut triangles as little bandanas to their drawings.  The portraits turned out beautifully!  Good job 1st grade!!

Open House Community Painting

Thanks to all the parents and students who ventured down the Fine Arts Hall to visit me!  I enjoyed talking and painting with you all.  I hope you enjoyed the activities too.  Here are some photos of the finished projects.  Go you!  You did an outstanding job.  I think the paintings are AMAZING.  Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it :)
